The
Grup Vallparadís was founded in 1986, but the training in traditional and
folk music of its members comes from the Group Cap Roig of Terrassa –
Calella de Palafrugell. They were members of this group in 1974 and they
can be considered its heirs, not only in the sensitivity of interpretation
but also in the concept of repertoire. This is why we can consider the
Grup Vallparadís a new foundation of the old group rather than a new
musical group. In
the wide-ranging and varied repertoire of the Grup Vallparadís different
types of song forms are present. On the one hand, the old habanera,
interpreted with a more traditional flavour, on the other, the modern
habanera, which is fresh and participative. Let us not forget the popular
and joyful valsets, the sardana, the tavern songs, as well as the sea
songs in general. They
have performed throughout Catalunya, Andorra, Mallorca and towns in
other parts of Spain such as Portugalete, Baracaldo and Getxo (Bizcaya),
Villarrobledo (Albacete) , Aguilas (Murcia) and Denia (Alicante); as well as in Perpignan and
the village of Banyuls in Nothern Catalunya . As
members of the Group Coordinating Commitee “100 Years of Habaneras in
Catalunya “ and solidary collaborators of the Casals Catalans (non-profit
organizations that promote the diffusion of the culture of the Catalan
Countries abroad) in Cuba; in April 2001 and in August 2007, Grup Vallparadís went on a tour and performed in cities such as Habana,
Guanabacoa, Matanzas and Cienfuegos. Among
their performances in Catalunya, their participation in the Festival of
Calella de Palafrugell in 1987 and 1998 as well as the Festival of Palamós
in 1987 and 1988 stand out because of their importance and popularity.
Also worth mentioning would be the task of organization and sponsoring of
the homage to maestro J.L. Ortega Monasterio, celebrated in Terrassa on
the 30th of September 2001, with the cooperation of the Centre de Promoció
de la Cultura Popular i Tradicional Catalana de la Generalitat de
Catalunya (Center for the Promotion of Folk and Traditional Catalan
Culture) and the Obra Social de Caixa de Terrassa. The
members of the group are: Xavier Delgado (tenor and guitarist),
and Agustí Alonso (bass and accordion) |
